I'm Sarah Haigh, Welfare Representative for the school of Arts and Media. I'm in my second year of a dual English Studies with Creative Writing Degree. Being what they call a "mature" student, this is my second go at education. I'm hoping to achieve a good degree and then go on to a teacher training qualification. I am super enthusiastic about the role welfare representatives play within the university as we are your link, your accessible point of contact. We can and have made real differences to students experiencing difficulties within their private lives enabling them to continue with university accessing the help they need. It's a really rewarding role and I love it.
Hello, I'm Helen and I'm one of the Welfare Representatives for the School of Arts and Media. I'm in my second year as a "mature" studying English part time. In addition to my studies I am a full time betting shop manager and Stepmother, so I have a very busy but very rewarding schedule! Having moved away from home to Uni the first time round at 19, I appreciate and have first hand experience of a whole host of Welfare issues which can affect your time at University. Hopefully my role will enable me to help other students who are facing welfare issues themselves and I can make students' journeys a little bit smoother!

"I became a Welfare Representative during my First year of studying Computing at Teesside Uni as I wanted to share and develop my existing skills to improve the Student experience. It's an important role which involves promoting services that the University provide for Students, but in times of panic/stress they may forget they are on offer.
Each day is different and I am part of a team who are on hand if a Student just wants to chat, share a laugh or needs direction for specialist advice. I have forged some great relationships around the University and it's fulfilling to know that you have made a positive difference. Amongst the study, I spend time baking great bread and cakes, discovery and electronic music."
