Our Student Support Advisers, Iain Clement and John Pinkney, are fully trained, professional advisers and give students free, impartial and confidential advice. They can help with the below and you can find out how to contact them here.
- Accommodation: Advisers can help you with issues from repairs, issues with housemates, utilities, arrears, tenancy agreements and deposit protection. We can also liaise with your landlord on your behalf
- Finances: Advisers can help with Student Finance England, Bursaries, Benefits, Debt, Budgeting, Hardship And Other Funds
- Fees and Charges: You can request to defer or remit your fees if you owe money to the University by applying to the Fees and Charges panel. Our advisers can talk you through the process and accompany you to meeting.
- Other Support: Advisers will assist where possible or will refer you onto the correct department or agency.
Hate Crime and Bullying
Contact SUSS to speak with one of our advisers if you feel you are being bullied or harassed. Our friendly, confidential and professional advisers can support you, offer you advice and if necessary help you to raise a complaint.
SUSS is also a hate crime reporting centre. Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted at a person because of hostility or prejudice towards that person’s disability, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation or transgender identity.
Cleveland Police Beat Surgery
Cleveland Police hold regular ‘Beat Surgeries’ in conjunction with SUSS. The friendly Police Community Support Officers are on hand to give safety tips and advice and you can report any issues you may have to them. Follow ‘SU Student Support - SUSS’ on Facebook for when they will be in the SU.
