Sports teams from Teesside University came together to defeat their counterparts from The University Of Sunderland by 16.5 to 6.5 points in the annual Tees Wear Varsity tournament on Wed, 22nd March. The annual event took place on the Teesside University campus and sports facilities close by this year with over 20 hotly contested matches in a huge range of activities including Football, American Football, Snowsports, Hockey, Cheerleading, Dance, Tennis, Basketball, Trampolining and much more besides.
It’s another welcome piece of silverware for the Students’ Union trophy cabinet after three Teesside sports teams clinched British Universities Colleges And Sport (BUCS) league titles in the past few weeks with Women’s Hockey securing a stunning league and cup double.
Amy Preston, Vice-President Activities at Teesside University Students’ Union said “It was an honour to lead, arguably, the biggest and best Varsity we have ever seen and I thank the SU activities team for their support plus all the incredible competitors and hundreds of spectators who helped us to such a great victory! It’s obviously wonderful to keep the Tees Wear Varsity trophy here on Teesside in such style but I also want to say a big well done and thanks to everyone from Sunderland for the fantastic spirit they showed both when competing and socialising with our students.”
