The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is every student’s chance to hear from the Student Officers about their plans for the year and have your say about how your SU is run. You’ll be able to put your questions and have a vote on any changes to the constitution including The Three Presidents Proposal.
The meeting won’t last longer than an hour and we’re so keen for you to come along that we’re laying on FREE PIZZA FROM DOMINOS MIDDLESBROUGH...and offering CASH PRIZES for the club and society who each have the most members in attendance.

We’re an SU that’s committed to running campaigns which are relevant to the day to day issues all students face and make a positive difference to every student’s life.
We continue to focus on housing, acceptable behaviour and language, safety, managing stress, course related issues and employability plus much more. You can also chat to Tom (VP Education) and Georgina (VP Welfare) if you’ve got any educational or welfare related issues in their Friendly Faces sessions.
This month we’re also looking at sexual health and running a whole week devoted to the Yes To Respect campaign. There’ll be stalls, info and freebies in the SU Building whenever a campaign day is on so make sure you check it all out!

The SU is led by students for students and every year ANY STUDENT* can run in our elections to find the next three Student Officers and next 4 NUS Conference Reps.
Student Officers get paid over £20,000 per year to work full-time for at least 12 months (Starting July 2018) with responsibilities including…
NUS Conference Reps attend the National Union of Students (NUS) Annual Conference (27th to 29th March 2018 at The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow). You’ll represent all Teesside Uni students and vote on the key issues debated there, it’s a small commitment of just 3 days and most expenses are paid by the SU. Just running in the elections is an amazing experience and a great chance to build new skills and if you’re elected you can make a real difference for all students, have lots of fun and boost your long term employability.
The elections open on Mon, 29th January 2018 and there’s a wealth of general info, key dates and downloads available from tees-su.org.uk/elections. You can also fix up a time to speak to current Student Officers about their roles by e-mailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
Student Opinion Counts (SOC) is the biggest and most influential piece of research that the Students’ Union carries out. The short, simple surveys cover everything from your student experience and the challenges you face through to the events, social spaces, support and activities provided by the SU.
The feedback makes a BIG difference as it’s used by the Student Officers and staff to identify the areas YOU want us to focus on in the year ahead and which areas of the SU we need to improve as a priority.
You could win anything from £100 for completing one of the surveys through to £500 if you complete all of them. Find out more and complete the surveys at tees-su.org.uk/soc
Terms and conditions apply, please review them on tees-su.org.uk/soc
Are you a member of a sports club who are achieving great things? Why not get some extra credit from the Students’ Union with our brand new club accreditation scheme?
All you need to do is demonstrate what you’re doing to become more competitive, generally develop and be more inclusive. There’s full info available on the criteria and how to apply at tees-su.org.uk/clubaccred or drop Martin Hawley, Clubs Development Coordinator a line, e-mail: email@example.com.
School Reps are recruited every year by the SU to gather the views and suggestions of fellow students and work with senior staff in their school to keep improving all aspects of the student experience. You can find out who your School Reps are and keep in touch with them by clicking here, the page includes links to all of their individual Facebook pages and any other social media they run.
Teesside is, generally speaking, a great place for students to live where you’ll find you’re made very welcome! However, it’s always important to think about your personal safety/ wellbeing and the ways that you can minimise the risk of being affected by crime.
Teesside University have recently released a new safety app which you can download to your phone. It will allow you to get help quickly in an emergency, check in when working alone or in high risk areas and receive notifications so you know what to do in an emergency.
They’ve also published a Student Safety Guide offering a wealth of info on staying safe and healthy whilst you study.
As the dark nights draw in maybe it’s time to think about your home security?
Don’t forget the SU also has a wealth of safety related info and details of upcoming safety campaign days available through tees-su.org.uk/safety.
