We’re not ones to boast (well not much anyway) but 2018 was another great calendar year at the SU with awards, national recognition, student success, sporting glory and services/ campaigns that made a real difference.
We’re looking back on the best bits in our Impact Report and Impact Video now and you can pick up printed copies of the report from the first floor of the SU Building.
Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU) is led by students for students and in March of every year three current students are elected to lead the organisation and oversee how it’s run as Student Officers (President Education, President Activities and President Welfare).
They work full-time from July 2019 for at least 12 months and are paid over £21,000 per year to represent students to the most senior figures at the Uni and a range of external bodies. They also lead on a range of campaigns and big events at the SU. It’s a unique opportunity to make a real difference and gain the kind of experience and skills other graduates can only dream of!
In addition, students can run to be one of the four Teesside Uni representatives at the National Union of Students (NUS) National Conference. The three day event takes place in April 2019 and is the biggest single gathering of Students’ Unions and students. You’ll have your say about a range of national issues affecting students with most of your expenses paid by TUSU. There’s a great social scene every night too!
The opportunities are open to any current student* and past experience/ involvement in the SU is much less important than a passion for representing students and a willingness to work hard! You’ll get lots of support from staff at the SU from being a candidate right through your time as a Student Officer.
Nominations open on Mon, 25th Feb but NOW is the time to start finding out more and planning your campaign! There’s a wealth of information available from tees-su.org.uk/elections or drop a line to email@example.com to speak with current Officers and key support staff about what’s involved.
*There are a small number of circumstances which may prevent you from running in our elections and becoming a Student Officer/ Trustee including previously being declared bankrupt, having a criminal record or not being a current student at the time elections voting takes place. Please contact us through the elections e-mail above for a confidential discussion about any concerns.

We’re a students’ union that’s committed to real world campaigns that make a difference for ALL students. Our Student Officers lead on campaigns covering housing, mental health and general wellbeing, acceptable behaviour and language on campus (Yes to Respect), safety, employability and more.
Throughout this semester the Officers will be out and about with SU on Tour giving you the chance to tell them about your student experience.
Andrew Richardson (President Activities) will also give students the chance to improve their employability and job prospects at employable me campaign days and a brand new Sport, Health, Wellbeing and Opportunities Fair.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is one of the biggest and most influential student surveys around. It’s a chance for most final year students to tell Teesside University and the SU what you thought of the teaching, resources, facilities and feedback you’ve had throughout your time here.
It launches at the end of January and every student who completes it will be entered in to a prize draw to win cash prizes (full details confirmed soon, winners announced in April 2019, check our terms and conditions for the competition at the web link below).
Find out why we think you should spend a few minutes giving your feedback now at tees-su.org.uk/nss
Teesside is, generally speaking, a great place for students to live where you’ll find you’re made very welcome! However, it’s always important to think about your personal safety/ wellbeing and the ways that you can minimise the risk of being affected by crime. Here’s a few handy tips from the Students’ Union.
