Boat Club

Rowing is totally inclusive sport, catering for all ages, abilities, sexes and sizes. An extremely social sport, that enables you to make friends for life.

We are extremely lucky here at TUBC as our river, the river Tees, is a beautiful place to row and receives compliments far and wide. The mood of the river differs each training session, sometimes it is calm and tranquil and other times it is wild. It certainly keeps our rowers on their toes. We are partnered with Tees Rowing Club which is an excellent organisation with a wide range of facilities.

Our water sessions are coupled with land based training, which includes the rowing ergometer, circuit training and cross training such as hill climbs. Regular training programmes are organised by our rowing coaches and other team members. These can be catered for individuals or whole squads.

Our club competitive men and women squads are dedicated to training hard for regular races. That include; BUCS meetings, local regattas and head races and national competitions such as Four’s head and Women’s Eights Head throughout the year.

Our recreational squad is more relaxed. In this environment, members join to meet new people, have Wednesday night club socials and learn a new skill. Members have opportunity to go on the annual university-wide sports club tour. Which is always held in high regard in the university sports calendar. An unforgettable experience for all of us who went.

The club has also successfully raised money for national charities by staging a 12 hour rowing marathon in the SU on behalf of cancer research. We are intending to build on this and support more fantastic causes.

In 2013 and 2016 Teesside University Boat Club won ‘the most improved sports club’ award at the university, of which we are very proud. We, as a club, are always looking for ways to improve ourselves. 2018/2019 will be the year Teesside University Boat Club makes a big splash.
