Joshua Williams

Student Trustee

Joshua is originally from the UK and is studying a LLB (Hons) Law degree. He chose to study at Teesside University after being impressed by everything it had to offer, including the quality of teaching and courses available, as well as the close proximity of accommodation and other key facilities to the Middlesbrough campus. He is currently a School Representative, ensuring the voices of fellow students in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law (SSSHL) are heard by senior staff and working closely with them to keep improving all aspects of student life. He is also a Teesside University Student Ambassador and has previously chaired the Teesside University Law Society.

"I applied to join the TUSU board as a Student Trustee as I am focused on ensuring that all students have the best possible experience with their feedback heard at all levels of the University. I want to ensure the financial struggles many face are more visible and work with the Student Officers to further improve the help students get with the cost of living. Additionally, I am passionate about proper equality for students who identify as LGBTQ+ and stamping out any discrimination they face. And I want to work with the President Education to further improve student’s understanding and awareness of the important issue of academic misconduct."

Daniel Scrafton

Student Trustee

Daniel is originally from Sunderland and is studying Computer Game Programming. He chose to study at Teesside University after being impressed with its top four placing in the UK for computer games-related courses. Alongside his studies, he is currently Chair of the Games Creation Society and a member of the Games Art Society while also serving as a School Representative for The School of Computing, Engineering and Digital Technologies (SCEDT). In that role he ensures the views of fellow students are heard by senior staff and works closely with them to further develop the overall experience provided by the school.

“I applied for the position of Student Trustee, alongside my existing responsibilities because I wanted to try and make even more of a difference for students from all backgrounds and ensure a wide range of voices are heard by TUSU. I also want to help ensure that the organisation meets as many of the different needs of students as possible, particularly in terms of the spaces we provide for them to relax, study, and socialise.”

Nixon Christian

Student Trustee

Nixon is originally from India and is studying an undergraduate degree in International Business Management. He chose Teesside University after being attracted to the more intimate, community feel of the campus and town compared to other areas of the UK, as well as the easily accessible country and seaside close by. Alongside his studies he has always played an extremely active role in student life and feels his involvement has been an ideal way to continue to celebrate his culture while adjusting to a new lifestyle and environment. His current roles include Chair of Teesside University Christian Union, a School Representative for Teesside University International Business School (TUIBS) and Student Chair of the influential Student Experience Sub-Committee (SESC). In addition, he is closely involved in St Barnabus Church, located near campus, and serves as a member of their Parochial Church Committee (PCC).

“I have found throughout my life and particularly my time at Teesside University that the more you put in the more you undoubtedly get back; I enjoy helping people and organisations and my various roles have allowed me to do both while developing my own skills and character. I am delighted to add the role of Student Trustee to my various responsibilities, and I aim to work closely with the rest of the board to further develop the reach and impact TUSU has on the lives of all Teesside University students. I also hope to encourage even more of them to get involved in their Students’ Union in whatever capacity they wish.”
