About Speaker
Dr Mahabir Pun is a Nepali scientist, teacher, social entrepreneur and activist known for his extensive work applying wireless technologies to develop remote areas of the Himalayas, also known as the Nepal Wireless Networking Project.
He is a widely known figure in Nepal. His work has been recognized by the Ashoka Foundation, the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation, the University of Nebraska, and the Global Ideas Bank. He is a humanitarian whose work is inspiring many youths to return to their own country and serve it for its development
International recognition
2002, Pun was elected Ashoka Fellow by the Ashoka Foundation, the global association of leading social entrepreneurs.
2004, Pun received the Overall Social Innovations Award from the Global Ideas Bank, aka the Institute for Social Inventions.
2007, Pun was awarded the Magsaysay Award, considered by some to be the Nobel Prize of Asia, in recognition of "his innovative application of wireless computer technology in Nepal, bringing progress to remote mountain areas by connecting his village to the global village."
Mahabir Pun was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014

Dr Faik Hamad has been a senior lecturer in mechanical engineering at Teesside University's School of Science, Engineering, and Design since 2011. He spent four years as a researcher/teaching fellow at Aberdeen University before joining Teesside University. Hamad has co-authored over 40 articles in prestigious journals and served as a reviewer for several others. Multiphase flows, energy storage, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and turbomachinery are his research interests. Hamad recently received two grants that will allow him to expand his research into new areas such as microbubble generation and flow in porous media and microchannels.
