📣 How to Promote Your Society (Without Losing Your Mind)

 

Alright, so you’ve got a society. Maybe you’re on committee, maybe you’re just helping out – either way, you want people to know you exist and actually show up. Here’s how to spread the word and get your society noticed!

 

📱 Social Media – Your Best Friend

 

Let’s be real: if it’s not on Instagram, does it even exist?

Socials are where most students find out what’s going on. Whether you’re posting TikToks of your events or just throwing up a quick story reminder, social media is your go-to tool.

 

Tips:

• Keep it active! A dead Instagram is a dead society (ok not really, but you get it).
• Use stories for quick updates, posts for big news, and reels for fun or behind-the-scenes stuff.
• Tag your SU and Activities Team, use relevant hashtags, and don’t be afraid to jump on a trend (tastefully).

 

🎉 Societies Days – Your Time to Shine

 

These are basically society markets – everyone sets up stalls, there’s music, freebies, and loads of students walking around deciding what to join.

What to do:

• Make your stall eye-catching (banners, snacks, badges, anything!)
• Bring good vibes – people are drawn to friendly, enthusiastic energy.
• Have your QR code ready to allow signups.
• Demos or games = instant attention.

 

💌 Email Your Members – Yes, Really

 

It might feel old-school, but emails still work. Not everyone sees every Insta post, but most people check their uni inbox.

Why send emails:

• It’s a great way to share important info (event dates, signups, changes, etc.).
• You can say more than you would in a caption.
• It feels more personal – especially if you keep it casual and friendly.
• Even a monthly “Here’s what’s coming up!” is super helpful.

 

🛍️ Set Up a Stall in the SU

 

Outside of Societies Days, you can still book a stall in the Students’ Union.

Great for:

• Promoting a specific event
• Selling event tickets (Free or otherwise)
• Getting people to join mid-term

Make it fun, be approachable, and bring snacks (seriously, snacks work every time).

 

📸 Take Photos & Videos – and Share Them!

 

Running an event? Meeting up for a collab? Just hanging out? Take pictures and videos!

Why it matters:

• It shows you’re active, which attracts new members.
• You can use the content for your socials.
• If you send the best stuff to the SU and Activities Team, they might feature you – free promo!

(Just make sure everyone’s cool with being in the photos first.)

 

🏆 Shout About Your Successes

 

Won an award? Pulled off a great event? Raised money for charity? TELL PEOPLE!

Hype yourselves up. Post about it, drop it into an email, or even let the SU know so they can boost it on their channels. People love seeing societies doing cool stuff – and success attracts more success.
