The vastly experienced team of advisers provide impartial help with issues related to the academic side of your student experience and any problems you might encounter with accommodation. If they can’t help with your issue, they will always try to connect you with someone in the Uni or an external organisation who can!

Find out more about SUSS here or ask staff at our ground floor info point about how to access support provided by SUSS or where to go with other issues you are encountering that we do not deal with.

And remember that the University provide a wide range of help with finance and wellbeing plus lots more! Search the Student Life Portal here for full info.

Welcome from your Student Reps

Hello and a warm welcome to both new and returning students! We are your School Representatives, a dedicated group of students collaborating closely with senior academic staff to address your concerns and issues.

We also collaborate with SU Officers to direct students to the appropriate resources and to address university-wide student concerns. Additionally, we provide feedback on student issues that could lead to an SU officer campaign. While School Representatives are full-time students engaged at the school level, SU Officers are full-time staff. They focus on issues that affect students on a university-wide scale.

How We Can Assist You

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Student Experience Feedback
  • School Facilities
  • Signposting to Services Across Campus

How to Reach Us

  • Via Email: Contact us at representation@tees-su.org.uk.
  • Arrange an Online Teams Meeting: Send us a message, email, or catch us on campus to schedule a convenient time.
  • Attend an On-Campus Drop-In Event: Keep an eye out for our updated list of in-person events for Semester 1.

Additionally, we encourage you to get involved and share your opinions. Your feedback is crucial in shaping the future of our school and enhancing the student experience for everyone.

If you are passionate about representation and wish to become a Course Representative, opportunities will be available at the beginning of this academic year. To express your interest, simply inform your course leader that you would like to run for the position. An election will take place at the course level, and once appointed, you will receive communication from the Student Union. Student Safety Tips

Your SU works closely with the University and a range of external agencies such as Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire, and the NHS to try to keep all students safe and well. It remains important to keep taking sensible precautions to minimise the risk to both yourself and other students.

Check out our tips for staying over the fresher's period and throughout semester one.

  • If you are living in student accommodation, make sure you always remember to lock windows and doors when you head out securely.
  • Try to keep anything particularly valuable out of sight when you leave your student house.
  • If you find that the property you are living in does not have a fire, carbon monoxide and burglar alarms or an up-to-date gas certificate, speak to your letting agent or landlord immediately. You can also get online help with accommodation issues through our SU Student Support team by e-mailing: suss@tees-su.org.uk.
  • If you are new to Middlesbrough or Teesside, try to stay in well-lit areas and groups when you head out after dark. Fellow students can also probably give useful advice on areas of the town that you may wish to avoid.
  • Drink responsibly and avoid illegal drugs, especially if they are being supplied by someone you do not know. NEVER DRINK/ TAKE DRUGS AND THEN DRIVE!
  • Be aware of possible drink spiking, especially if you are in unfamiliar venues with new people.
  • Middlesbrough Council has strict rules on behaviour in public, especially in the town centre. Please be aware that if you are deemed to have behaved unacceptably in public spaces, you may face a fine of several hundred pounds.
  • Like any UK town, Middlesbrough, sadly, has issues with begging in the town centre. Cleveland Police and Middlesbrough Council advise you not to give money to people who ask for it and avoid lengthy engagement with people who beg, especially if they are aggressive. A range of support is available from professional agencies for people who are in these situations; assisting them should be left to the experts.
