Energy Society presents Rana Abdalla: Graduate Talk: Securing Internship and Graduate Jobs

Rana Abdalla is a highly accomplished Electrical Engineer specializing in low-carbon and renewable energy projects. Currently based in London, she works at bp, where she contributes to large-scale energy transition initiatives, including the 100 MW Lingen Green Hydrogen Project and the 800 MW NZT and NEP power plant with CCUS

With a career spanning multiple industries—including construction, manufacturing, and building services—Rana brings a diverse technical background to her work. She is passionate about investigating the complexities of integrating new energy projects into national grids, both technically and commercially, with the goal of shaping future policies for a net-zero carbon world.

Her professional journey includes roles at Arup, British Steel, and Bechtel Corporation, where she worked on key projects in electrical design, power engineering, and instrumentation.

 

Rana holds a Master of Science in Electrical Power and Energy Systems from Teesside University, UK and a Bachelor of Science in Electro-Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt.

 

Beyond her technical expertise, Rana is a dedicated advocate for STEM education, diversity in engineering, and early-career mentorship. She actively mentors and supports young engineers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to navigate their careers and succeed in the engineering industry. She's a mentor at Graduate Engineering Engagement Programme (GEEP),of Royal Academy of Engineering, mentor at Windsor Fellowship, Graduate Destination STEM 2024 Program and is a chair/member of Early Years Advisory Board of EEMUA

 

She has been recognized with multiple honors and awards, including:

🏆 Winner of the 2023 EEMUA Early Years in Industry Award

🎓 Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship Recipient by Teesside University

🏅 Cecil M. Yuill Prize for Academic Achievement by a Female Engineer

 

Rana is a member of IEEE, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Women in Engineering network. She is fluent in English and Arabic, with working proficiency in French.

Her combined technical expertise, leadership in STEM, and commitment to diversity in engineering make her a key advocate for the future of renewable energy and engineering inclusivity.
